Any radio hack can tell you that a career in broadcasting
begins with narcissism. I was no different. It was all about ME, baby. I wanted people tuning into MY show, to hear about
MY life and most importantly, listening to MY music. Quite rapidly, hopes were dashed and checks from Clear Channel
were cashed. We all sell out a little bit, don't we? I left the biz at the end of 2005, but kept wondering
how to resurrect my radio dreams. I wanted to stay interested in music, play with sound, and express myself. God help me,
it's like a frickin' Madonna song. Not much later, DETOUR was born. DETOUR is a semi regular
podcast of cool-ass music that I mix together. The first question people always ask is: What do you play? I
call it a meeting point for electronica, jazz, world music, breakbeats and turntables. I mention artists like Thievery Corporation,
Morcheeba, John Scofield, Soul Coughing, Groove Armada and Massive Attack. Admittedly, some people get it and some don't.
Though I thought of syndicating DETOUR , once I began learning about the business of syndication, it started
to feel too much like a job. I wanted this to be fun, and of course: ALL ABOUT ME. Now, without further ado,
I cordially invite you to take a DETOUR.
